Outside Blog 4

For my outside blog this week I'm going to talk about myspace, facebook, and twitter all the Internet social networks that are very popular these days. I frequent these sites a lot, almost everyday to be exact, reading other people blogs and comments to even what they ate today, I sometimes wonder why am I so intrigued by these sites what are they doing to make me want to go on everyday? I realize after browsing through is that they have little ways of getting us to log on and that it letting us post our statues and moods for day letting us upload videos and photos all of these thing help get our attention. Also on these sites there is no language restriction so your comfortable reading the text. There also aren't any gender restrictions either it a social network for all ages these sites are updated a modernized to keep entertained and staying connected to these type of sites it not hard to figure out, every time I go on there is always some new feature added to get my attention. I think basically when it comes down to these site after awhile it does get boring but instead of picking up a really good book we rather go on the Internet click on one of these sites and read about other people day and life but I can say, it is very interesting stuff I think I learn about a different character everyday. : )

  1. Haha man I deleted those things. There is something about being unknown to the world while everyone else is a drone filled with as much social knowledge as their 2000 facebook "friends" that I find appealing. Don't get me wrong everyone is a character for sure, I just don't want to waste my time reading internet gossip. It is nice to keep in touch with far off friends, but do we really need to use it as often as most people do? Man I guess I am old-school I barely even text.

  2. I love Facebook. In fact, I have it on my phone and check it frequently throughout the day. It's a nice way to network with people you don't normally see in your day to day dealings. It allows me to keep up on people I used to work with and share milestone events. Of course it doesn't replace a telephone conversation, or face to face, but it does bridge the gap. I haven't tried twitter yet, not sure if I want to go there or not. I'm not interested in everyone knowing what I'm doing at any given moment of my day. That's too big brother, 1984ish.

  3. I have a myspace and a facebook. I get on them pretty much everyday too. I agree with Deb, I think it gives you a way to keep in touch with people that you don't get to see everyday. Sometime I don't think it is the best way to keep in touch with people though. I found out through myspace that a few of my friends were going to be parents or that they got married. I think those are things that should be told to people in person or even over the phone. I agree with Roger too, I think having over 2000 friends is kind of crazy. I only add people that I actually know and have talked to in person.

  4. My wife spends alot of time on facebook. My self, I jsut dont have the time to spend on these type of things with the work load that I have taken on this summer. I have four classes this summer and find it hard to find time for my children and get a little study time in to boot. The only thing I know about facebook is that you can keep in touch with friends that you dont get to see very much.

  5. Facebook is the big one for me. I do still have an account on Myspace but rarely get on it anymore. For me these sites really keep me in touch with people. If I didn't have them I really think I wouldn't be out doing stuff with friends as much. If that wasn't the case, I don't think I would really have one anymore. Not to mention later this year I will be in Chicago, and I think facebook will be the only good way for me to keep in touch! I really like your reading on these sites though, it helps me understand them a bit more :]

  6. I was the same way as Roger I never had a facebook or myspace up until my senior year. Mainly because I didn't wanna read all the gossip but then I finally did break down and get and now I check it all the time.

  7. Why is Facebook so addicting?

Why did it become popular RIGHT NOW at this point in history? What is it about our current cultural climate that makes it so appealling?

    (Good post, Ashley.)

  8. I think its so popular right now because we are pretty much in the technological era right now. It seems like people find it more fun to meet people and talk through network socializing, texting, etc. because its easier and to be honest, alot of people make themselves seem better(or friendlier/more in touch) or more attractive by having these sites. I deleted my myspace cause of all the drama, i keep facebook for now though i rarely ever check it. I pretty much just text and talk for communication.
